The centerpiece of our application and approach is the recognition that creating new knowledge is not simply a matter of “processing” objective information.  Rather, it depends on tapping interpretation, tacit, explicit and often highly subjective insights, intuition, and hunches of departments, groups and individual employees and making those insights available for making decisions, testing and training by the company as a whole.

Knowledge interpretation is highly personal.  Traditionally, this type of information is very difficult to formalize and, therefore, difficult to communicate to others.  Knowledge interpretation like tacit knowledge is also deeply rooted in action and in an individual’s commitment to a specific context – a craft or profession, a particular technology or product market, or activities of a work group or team.  Knowledge interpretation consists partly of technical skill – the kind of informal hard-to-pin-down skills captured in the “term know-how.”  A master craftsman after years of experience develops a wealth of expertise “at his fingertips.” But he is often unable to articulate the scientific or technical principles behind what he knows. Cognitix is an n-tiered .NET solution on that can run on top of a variety of database platforms.  A basic Cognitix solution install consists of three main components:
Cognitix Server
Cognitix Metabase
Cognitix Knowledge Banks
   
Scalability:
The Cognitix Server can be load balanced using standard, readily available technologies for superior scalability.
The Cognitix Knowledge Banks do not have to be located on the same database server as the Cognitix Database.
Support for Oracle and MySQL databases to act as hosts for Knowledge Banks.  In fact, you will be allowed to mix and match Database platforms with little configuration.
